Kaleb Sanders’ journey to becoming a rising star in Nashville’s country music scene is a testament to his resilience and commitment to his dreams, particularly during tough times. Inspired by his grandfather, a talented bluegrass picker who passed away, Sanders resolved to pursue music seriously. This familial legacy has fueled his ambition, but it’s the support of his family and friends that has reinforced his determination.
“When I called [my family], I said, ‘College isn’t working out,’” Sanders told Jeff Tomko on the Country Muscle Podcast. His family’s response was firmly supportive but included a dose of tough love: “Not in this house. We’ll help you find a place, but you’re going to gain your independence.” This pivotal moment marked the beginning of Sanders’ journey back home, where he would cultivate his musical talent.
His best friend, singer Tristan, played a vital role in pushing Sanders to step out of his comfort zone. A decade ago, Tristan urged him to perform publicly by issuing a friendly vocal challenge. It was at a packed open mic night that Sanders chose to sing Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” a performance that would ultimately prove to be a significant turning point in his career. “Hearing that from my best friend Tristan—that I was good—was really cool and validating,” Sanders reflects, underscoring the importance of having trusted individuals to provide encouragement.
Despite the harsh truths, Sanders took to heart the advice to “give the people what they want.” He recalls Travis Tritt’s words: “You got to be a human jukebox.” This motivated him to diligently learn new songs and expand his repertoire, all while working on the family farm.
Today, as his presence in the country music world continues to grow, so does his support team, which includes songwriters, social media personnel, and a tour manager. “The train is moving, and I can feel it,” he exclaims. Sanders’ journey embodies grit and determination, proving that with the right mindset and support, dreams really can come to fruition, even in the unpredictable landscape of the music industry.
