Jimmy Buffett’s adopted island home is set to honor his life, music and laid-back legacy this fall as “Just a Few Friends Key West” returns Sept. 3–7, 2026. The third annual festival will celebrate the singer-songwriter in the city where he shaped his “tropical rock” sound and carefree persona.
Organizers say the long weekend will blend live music, island culture and deep-cut Buffett lore. Events range from memorial parades and park concerts to margarita tastings and storytelling sessions at the Chart Room Bar, where Buffett first played locally in the 1970s.
Buffett, who died Sept. 1, 2023, discovered Key West in the early ’70s and lived there during some of his most prolific years. The island’s characters and streets — from Fausto’s Food Palace and Blue Heaven to Captain Tony’s and the Chart Room—helped inspire classics such as “Margaritaville” and fueled a lifestyle brand that grew from a single waterfront Margaritaville Store into a global empire.
This year’s festival opens Thursday, Sept. 3, with “Tails from the Chart Room,” a “Cheeseburger Beach Battle” and an oceanfront concert, followed by an after-party at Margaritaville Café headlined by longtime Coral Reefer vocalist Nadirah Shakoor.
Key West will formally salute Buffett on Friday, Sept. 4, with a “Jimmy Buffett Day” proclamation outside his Shrimp Boat Sound recording studio and a behind-the-scenes look at a documentary on the famed facility. The night will feature Gary and the Landsharks re-creating the feel of Buffett’s surprise 1998 Duval Street concert, preceded by a Bubba Look-Alike Showdown with a $1,000 prize.
The festival’s signature event — a Second Line Memorial Walking Parade and “Party in the Park” at Truman Waterfront Park — is set for Sunday, Sept. 6, capped by performances from longtime Coral Reefer Mac McAnally, “Bubbles Up” co-writer Will Kimbrough and Florida Keys trop rocker Howard Livingston.
Organizers note the festival has raised more than $75,000 for local charities over the past two years, benefiting groups including Reef Relief, the Bahama Village Music Program and scholarship funds through the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys.
